The Trade Practices Act 1974 was an act of the Parliament of Australia. The act provided for protection of consumers and prevented some restrictive trade practices of companies. It was the key competition law in Australia before it was replaced, on 1 January 2010, by the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, which contained a new model Australian Consumer Law. It was enforced by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission. It also conferred some rights to take private civil or enforcement action.
